NAGA CITY—The Agrometeorological Station of Pagasa in the town of Pili, Camarines Sur, warned that the province may experience a further increase in the heat index in the coming months.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Naga, Ian Niel Nuñez, Officer in Charge of CBSUA-Pili Agromet Station, said that in the past few days, their office has recorded a high level of heat index that can be considered dangerous to the health of the people.

According to Nuñez, in recent days, a 42-degree Celsius heat index was recorded in the province of Camarines Sur, particularly in the town of Pili.

Although the temperature has dropped in recent days due to the rains, the public still needs to be careful to avoid getting sick.

According to Pagasa, a heat index of 42°C to 51°C is considered dangerous, where heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke are likely to be experienced.

Meanwhile, the heat index of 33°C to 41°C is considered extreme caution.

In this regard, the Agrometeorological Station in Pili issued a computed 5 days of heat index where their observation is done hourly.

As the only representative of Pagasa in the province, the Agrometeorological Station in Pili has the authority to obtain the heat index to provide information to the public.

Meanwhile, Nuñez clarified that last year, CBSUA Pili was one of the areas in the Philippines that registered a danger level of heat index because the country was on La Niña alert.

For now, the official urged everyone to follow the advice of experts to avoid illnesses caused by the high temperatures.
