Tiniyak ni House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III nitong Miyerkules na tuloy ang nakatakdang impeachment proceedings laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte sa Abril 14, matapos hindi maglabas ang Korte Suprema ng temporary restraining order (TRO) na magpapahinto sa pagdinig ng House justice committee.
Inatasan lamang ng SC ang House justice committee na magsumite ng komento sa pinagsama-samang petisyon ni Duterte at ilang abogado. Ayon kay Dy, “The House of Representatives welcomes the Supreme Court’s non-issuance of a temporary restraining order… In the absence of any legal restraint, the House of Representatives will continue to discharge its constitutional mandate.”
Pinuna ni Duterte sa kanyang petisyon ang proseso ng House justice panel, na aniya’y “unconstitutional” at tila nagsasagawa ng “trial,” na lampas sa kapangyarihan ng komite. Iginiit niya rin na walang sapat na “ultimate facts” sa mga reklamo laban sa kanya.
Tiniyak ni Dy na isasagawa ang impeachment proceedings nang naaayon sa Konstitusyon at alituntunin, sa isang patas at maayos na proseso kung saan maririnig ang lahat ng panig. Aniya, “The proceedings are part of the constitutional process of accountability, guided by facts, evidence, and the rule of law… with each branch performing its role within the bounds of the Constitution.”
